4 Things Entrepreneurs Can Learn From Jolene Hart
At Kestra Private Wealth Services, we have the privilege of coaching teams at one of the most pivotal points in their careers: Breaking away from the wirehouse and establishing independent businesses.
Taking on the role of an entrepreneur is a big step, and one that entails a shift in mindset from that of a W2 employee to a true leader. Whether you’re overseeing a team or going it solo, YOU will be the one to set the tone for the business’ strategy. How can you get started on the right foot?
Remember, your energy is everything. It impacts the way you think, feel, and interact with others. My colleague Maria Bethel and I spoke with Jolene Hart, a former beauty magazine editor turned health coach and best-selling author, on a recent Kestra Out Loud podcast episode to learn how she’s helping others shift their energy to put their best self forward.
Jolene shared four takeaways from her new book “Ignite Your Light” to consider for exuding positive (and productive!) energetic change.
- Energy is inspiration. You have the power to write your story and choose the direction you want to go. These goals, wants, and desires help define the course of action that makes the most sense for you.
- Energy is nourishment. Contrary to popular belief, nourishment isn’t limited to a food source. Finding what “feeds” you means evaluating what makes you feel your best. Is it a connection with a specific person? A creative outlet? A unique hobby? Learn how to nourish yourself properly and you’ll be surprised by how your energy changes.
- Energy is connection. You need to have strong connections with clients and staff in order to thrive in this business. Consider how your personal energy acts as a conduit to fuel these relationships. Project good into the world not just for yourself, but for others. Ask yourself, “is my energy in the right place?” As humans, we tend to be reactive, but introspection is a powerful tool that allows us to connect with others on a deeper level. If you don’t practice the discipline of evaluating your personal energy, you’re liable to react in a way contrary to your intention or purpose.
- Energy is contagious. The best energy can get us out of our worst states, and the worst energy can rob us of our best moments. Something as simple as a thoughtful text message or gesture can change the course of someone else’s day. As a business leader, remember that kindness is free and simple, yet it can have a more profound and long-lasting impact than one solid quarter of portfolio performance.
As you start and grow your own business, don’t forget to keep your energy in check. Remaining aware of how your thoughts, feelings, and actions impact others will ensure your role as a leader is off to a strong start.
